Cursive Handwriting Returns to Texas!

Handwriting is making a comeback in schools across theCursive Returns.jpg

the state of Texas. According to an article published

in Education News by Houston Public Media (a

service of the University of Houston), the majority of

Texas school districts currently don’t teach students to

write in cursive. That will change in the 2019-2020 school year.

In 2017, the State Board of Education approved the new learning standards which reflect the
growing scientific evidence of the benefits of handwriting. Under the new standards, second
graders will learn how to write cursive letters and third graders will learn how to write complete
words and thoughts in cursive writing. Cursive will also be a requirement in fourth and fifth grade.
